Air Force Active Duty Airman Killed in Colorado Car Crash

An active duty Air Force airman was recently killed in a rollover accident in Colorado Springs, highlighting the risk of these common single-car crashes for drivers across the state.

The female airman, whose name has not been made public, was driving a Jeep northbound on Interstate 25 at the time of the accident, according to local news reports.

Her car reportedly veered off of the road at the Interquest Parkway exit near the United States Air Force Academy Airfield. The vehicle hit a guardrail and then flipped over, the reports said.

The woman died at the scene of the accident.

The Risk of Rollovers

Rollover accidents involving one or more cars are unfortunately common in Colorado and across the country.

They regularly result in serious injuries and fatalities, especially when drivers or passengers are not wearing seatbelts. Rollover crashes account for nearly one-third of all vehicle occupant fatalities each year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Although these accidents can happen in a number of different ways, a Denver auto accident lawyer at our firm will tell you that some factors are more common than others. Jeeps and sport utility vehicles, for example, are often involved in these crashes because of their relatively narrow width and high center of gravity

Sharp, quick and unexpected turns are commonly to blame for rollover crashes. Side impact collisions with other cars also frequently result in rollovers.

How a Denver Auto Accident Lawyer Can Help You

The good news is that anyone injured in a rollover or other crash in Colorado has the right to seek compensation from those responsible, whether it is a negligent driver, a defective vehicle manufacturer, a road crew that leaves driving surfaces in a dangerous condition, or another party.

To get compensation for medical bills, missed wages, property damage and other impacts of an accident, you generally have to be able to prove negligence. This is a legal theory that holds people and entities liable when they do not live up to a certain standard of care.
