Colorado Plane Crash Kills Newlyweds

by  on  Car Accidents & Motor Vehicle Collisions

A tragic airplane crash in Colorado claimed the lives of a Florida couple just days after they were married in Telluride.

Costas Sivyllis and Lindsey Vogelaar were killed in October when their private plane crashed in the Ingram Basin, east of Telluride, according to a local NBC News affiliate. The National Transit Safety Board is investigating the crash, which occurred some 10 to 15 minutes after takeoff.

Vogelaar, a Denver native who worked in the airline industry, and Sivyllis were headed back to their home in Central Florida at the time of the accident. Sivyllis was a licensed pilot and flight instructor.

“They had eloped to Telluride for a small wedding and adventure-filled honeymoon that they were documenting online for friends and families to follow,” the San Miguel Sheriff’s office told CBSN Denver.

Legal Rights for the Family of People Killed in Colorado Accidents

When a person dies in a plane, car, truck, or other accident in Colorado, his or her family has the right to seek compensation from those responsible. That usually happens by filing a claim for wrongful death

No amount of money can ever replace a loved one or allow you to go back in time and stop an accident from happening. Money damages can, however, ease much of the financial strain that can come with the loss of a loved one.

Airplane accidents raise a number of potential liability issues. Often, these crashes are caused by poor design or defective or malfunctioning equipment. The plane’s manufacturer and parts makers may be liable if you can show that a defect or other problem caused or contributed to the crash.

In crashes involving commercial airlines, the company that owns and operates the plane is often to blame. Air carriers are liable for mistakes made by pilots and other employees, as well as in situations in which they fail to properly inspect and maintain their planes.

An experienced attorney can help you identify those responsible for the crash and seek compensation for wrongful death. In Colorado, a Denver accident lawyer can also help you navigate the legal process and negotiate with insurers and others on your behalf.
