Colorado Driver in New Year’s Eve Crash Charged With DUI

The driver in a multi-car New Year’s Eve car accident in Lakewood that sent at least three people to the hospital is now reportedly facing criminal charges.

Joshua Mayo has been charged with vehicular assault, driving under the influence, and leaving the scene of an accident, according to CBS4. Multiple people were injured in the crash, including one person that was ejected from a vehicle, the local news outlet reports.

Mayo was taken into police custody following the 5:30 p.m. car accident, which police said happened after he ran a red light. His Toyota FJ Cruiser reportedly hit several vehicles before slamming head-on into a truck in the intersection. Multiple people were said to suffer serious injuries as a result of the collision.

Lakewood police said shortly after the crash that they had reason to believe that drugs and speed may have been at play in the accident. They also said that Mayo tried to flee the scene of the crash but was apprehended.

Compensation for Colorado Car Accident Injuries

Whether it is a relatively minor fender bender or a multi-car pileup caused by a drugged driver, anyone who has been injured in an accident in Colorado has the right to seek compensation for their injuries. A Denver auto accident lawyer at Levine Law can help.

The compensation generally available in car accident cases is designed to put an injured person back in the position that he or she was in before the crash. It includes compensation for doctors’ bills and property damage, as well as missed wages while recuperating and any impact of the injury on a person’s earning capacity over the longer term.

That money will not turn back the clock and stop the accident from happening. It can, however, ease the financial strain that often comes with being hurt in an accident.

To get that compensation, you need to be able to identify those responsible for the accident and prove their legal liability. That means investigating the accident, compiling evidence, and presenting it in the clearest and most compelling way.
