Arrest Made in Drunk Driving Crash that Killed Colorado Cop

A suspected drunk driver accused of causing an October accident that killed two people, including a Commerce City police officer, was recently arrested.

Fructuoso Rosales-Cano was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide and driving under the influence in early December, according to KDVR. The move came shortly after he was released from the hospital after being injured in the crash, which claimed the lives of Commerce City Police Department Det. Curt Holland and Francesca Dominguez.

The collision happened when a pickup truck crossed into oncoming traffic on Highway 2, according to KDVR. The truck struck Holland’s unmarked sport utility vehicle before plowing into another car, driven by Dominguez.

Rosales-Cano’s blood alcohol content was 0.294, more than three times the legal limit, according to a local prosecutor. The prosecutor also recently told a judge that Rosales-Cano had previously been arrested for DUI at least once before the accident.

The 37-year-old Holland was reportedly the father of two small children. Dominguez was 32 at the time of the crash.

Rosales-Cano has since been released on a $20,000 bond while awaiting trial, a development that sparked outrage from the friends and family of the accident victims.

“It’s not fair. We’re going to be missing one of our own,” Rich Rodriguez, the president of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 19, told KDVR. “You have a family who is going to be missing their daughter, sister while this person is out and about enjoying their holiday, you could say it’s not fair.”
